WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY?

Net neutrality means that the internet is neutral, open, and that what you access is up to you and not your service provider. It means that internet service companies cannot prevent you from using online applications or discriminate against lawful websites you might want to visit like, well, this one.

WHY IS NET NEUTRALITY IMPORTANT?

Net neutrality has become an essential part of using the internet. With these rules, you can freely access a variety of online services: shopping sites, sporting events, television programming and social networking sites, and even stay informed about civic issues, based on your preferences. Net neutrality makes it possible for anyone with an idea, skill and means to build a website, launch a new application, or start and grow a business online without concern that an internet service company might limit that person’s opportunity to provide a service to customers.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON JULY 17, 2017?

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has stated it seeks to repeal the existing net neutrality rules and establish new rules for internet service. You can tell the FCC how you feel about the proposed rulemaking during the public comment period ending July 17, 2017.

HOW CAN I SUBMIT MY COMMENT TO THE FCC?

To submit your comment to the FCC, go to the FCC website and click on “+ Express.”
